Sport Management 2028

Path to GMercyU
I first found out about GMercyU when researching colleges in the Philadelphia area because I knew I wanted to stay home. I graduated from North Penn High School, which is located in Lansdale, PA, in 2024. When I started looking for a university, I focused on finding a place close to home but still offered a strong academic environment and opportunities in my field of interest.
GMercyU stood out to me because it immediately felt like home. When I arrived on campus, I felt a strong sense of community. Everyone here is incredibly welcoming and supportive, and you feel like you're more than just a number. People know your name and are there to help you succeed.
Experience in Sport Management
Growing up, I was always watching sports with my friends and family, but I never knew that you could major in sports until I started looking into colleges. I realized that a career in sports could be more than just a hobby, and that’s when I decided to pursue a major in Sport Management. The idea of combining my passion for sports with a professional career was something that really interested me.
What ultimately made me choose GMercyU were the opportunities and experiences I knew I would be provided with, especially as a Sport Management major. The personalized attention and hands-on learning experiences made it clear that this was where I could grow both personally and professionally.
One of my favorite aspects of my time at GMercyU has been my experience within my major. Dr. Maddie Herman is a great professor and is always willing to push me to become better. Her classes are project-based and prepare students for a future in the sports industry. She constantly educates us on how to find the best internships and has many connections in the field.
In her Foundations of Sport Management class in the fall, I was able to network with industry professionals, including those who work for the Delaware Blue Coats. In Dr. Hermans class as part of our final exams, we had to do mock interviews and create our own sports facilities. The mock interviews helped me practice my communication skills and get ready for real job interviews in the future. For the facility design project, we had to create and name a sports venue. This project gave me a better understanding of what it takes to run a sports facility.
I have joined the Sport Business Association (SBA) at GMercyU, which has allowed me to connect with other students in my field. I’ve also attended the Phillies College Series, Young Investigators Draft, and the Philadelphia 76ers Career Fair. These events have provided me with opportunities to learn from professionals in the sports industry and network with potential employers. These experiences are helping me gain a better understanding of the field and what it takes to succeed.
Post Graduation Plans
After graduation, I hope to work for a professional sports team to start my journey in the sports industry. My ultimate goal is to work in the social media department, where I can combine my love for sports with my skills in digital communication. I'm excited for the opportunities ahead and the chance to make an impact in sports.
