Shannon Stenson is a 2012 graduate of Spring-Ford High School. Her mom is an alumna of GMercyU, which is how she first had exposure to the University.
“The main selling point that made me attend was the proximity to home and the small class sizes, making it a more personal college experience,” Shannon said.
Around campus, Shannon was a member of Sigma Phi Sigma, the National Mercy Honor Society. As a member, she participated in and organized community service projects on and around campus.
Experience in the Biology Program
While at GMercyU, Shannon studied both biology and chemistry. Her cohort formed study groups to work together and her professors were there for anything she needed. Shannon’s professors were also her favorite part about GMercyU.
“Dr. McEliece and Dr. Lettini are two professors who stood out to me especially. These two wonderful professors have such a way with teaching that allows learning to be more relaxed and enjoyable,” Shannon said.
Dr. Lettini assisted Shannon in a summer research project where she was responsible for running the project and collecting data.
“It was a fantastic hands-on experience,” Shannon said.
Why GMercyU?
“I would recommend GMercyU to a prospective student because you are not just a number here. You are your own individual person and your individual needs are able to be met when you are able to have a personal relationship with your professors,” Shannon said.
Post-Graduation
Since graduating from GMercyU in 2016, Shannon has earned her Master’s in Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Salus University.
Shannon became a certified physician assistant in 2019 and has since worked in the emergency room and urgent care in Pennsylvania.
In May 2020, Shannon got married to her husband Joe and they now share two boys together named Jetson and Hendrix.
