Sam Brown was recruited to be a member of the GMercyU Women's Lacrosse team and knew numerous peers also attending GMercyU. She was accepted on the spot at the Instant Decision Day at Washington Township High School, where she graduated from 2016.
"After visiting, I knew it was where I wanted to go," Sam said.
During her time at GMercyU, Sam was an extremely involved student. Not only was she a member of the lacrosse team all four years, but she also played on the Women's Soccer team for two years. She was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Freshman Transition, Renaissance Club, and PAWS Club. She also served as a peer counselor and a volunteer lacrosse coach for four years.
My favorite part of GMercyU was the amazing friends I made and still talk to today. I will never forget the memories made between sports and academics.
As a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, Sam said, "My overall experience in the nursing program was great." Although she had many amazing professors, Sam noted that Brenda Clapp, Ann Marie Welsh, and Amanda Quate are three faculty members that stood out to her.
Sam completed her clinical experience at a number of sites including Pottstown Hospital, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Doylestown Hospital, Chestnut Hill Hospital, Mercy Suburban Hospital, and Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park.
"I felt as though I was exposed to a lot of different scenarios in my clinical experiences that prepared me for my job. The small clinical group sizes allowed a lot of time for supervised experiences," Sam said.
Since graduating from GMercyU, Sam has been working at Cooper University Hospital. In 2021, she started Substitute School Nursing in the Washington Township School District. She's also become a certified yoga instructor, does personal lacrosse training on the side, and adopted a puppy.
