Radiation Therapy 2018

Current Position: Staff Tech/II at Fox Chase Cancer Center
Story Last Updated: Fall 2024
I first heard about Gwynedd Mercy University from some of my mom’s co-workers who mentioned how great the radiation therapy program is. After I applied, I took a campus tour and met with LA, the field hockey coach. I loved how the campus looked – small and close together. I knew I wouldn’t have to worry about getting to classes that were a mile away from each other.
One of the ways the radiation therapy program is different here at GMercyU is we go to four different clinical sites. We start going to clinicals in our sophomore year during the spring semester and we also spend time in the summer between sophomore and junior year. During junior year we are at a clinical site from the start of the school year to the end and a different site in the summer. During senior year, we spend the whole year at another site.
All of my professors are really helpful but more importantly, they understand how busy my workload is as a student-athlete. They are really personal and they really want the best for us and want us to strive in the program.
I’m currently in my third year with the field hockey team and my first year as a captain. When I first started on the field hockey team as a freshman, I was nervous coming in. I was big, bug-eyed and ready to go. I wasn’t expecting to start right away but I came in at the right time and filled the right place. It’s been fun coming as a captain and playing with the same girls and getting to know them even better.
Do I get a little headache and stressed out every now and then? Yes, but my coaches and teachers understand the workload I’m putting on and they’re really trying to be helpful and making sure I’m being the best I can be.
I probably seem crazy to people but I like being busy, I like being involved and meeting new people. Along with being a student-athlete, I have also participated in Alternative Spring Break. I chose to be a part of ASB because I wanted to see different parts of America and see how other people live. I wanted to spread my wings and meet new people and see different cultures.
One of the reasons I tell people why they should choose GMercyU is because the faculty and staff are really friendly and involved in campus. I’ll have people in Alexandria Hall, maintenance and custodial staff, asks me how our games are because they see us in our uniforms. They ask us who we are playing and how did we do. Everybody here cares about you and wants you to be the best you can be. They want you to broaden out, go to different areas and really be a distinguished graduate of Gwynedd Mercy University when you leave.
