Nick Stangler
Biology 2013

Current Position: Pharmacist at RiteChoice Pharmacy
GMercyU has a great community atmosphere. The campus is always updating and is surrounded by beautiful scenery. The faculty-student ratio was very beneficial for me. I had a great experience at GMercyU and you will to!
Journey to GMercyU
Nick Stangler graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 2009. There were a number of reasons that Nick chose GMercyU, one being the strong reputation of the nursing program. Nick was also recruited to be a member of the Men's Soccer Team and had two cousins attending the University.
"GMercyU's location was also very appealing to me as it was close enough to Philly that I would be able to get home if there was ever an emergency or event I wanted to attend, but also far enough that I was able to live away from my parents," Nick said.
On campus, Nick was a four-year member of the Men's Soccer Team and served as Captain for his junior and senior seasons. He also played on the Men's Tennis Team during his final semester at GMercyU.
Transition from Nursing to Biology Student
Upon entering GMercyU, Nick was a nursing major. In high school, he was always drawn to science more than other subjects, particularly biology and anatomy. For Nick, the most practical aplication of those sciences was nursing. Due to the early clinical nature of GMercyU's nursing program, Nick learned early ont hat nursing was not the right option.
"I wasn't sure what career I wanted to pursue, so I decided that a degree in Biology would provide many options across several fields," Nick said.
He described GMercyU's Biology program as "challenging and rewarding." Nick really enjoyed the hands-on lab learning and the individual care and attention from faculty members.
I am still very impressed by the resources of the program for lab experiments and practical applications.
Dr. Stacey Lettini was one faculty member that stood out to Nick. She served as his academic advisor and lead Nick through his summer research project.
His research project assessed the health of the streams and small waterways on and around campus. The two examined fish for parasites, catalogued insect populations, and collected data about hte quality of the water and the pH level.
Post-Graduation
After graduating, Nick decided he wanted to go into the field of pharmacy. In Fall 2014, Nick entered the PharmD program at Thomas Jefferson University and graduated in May 2018.
While at Thomas Jefferson, he spent three years as a student pharmacist with CVS prior to acception a job upon graduation.
In Spring 2020, Nick left CVS for an independent pharmacy called RiteChoice Pharmacy. The company works directly with health centers to provide affordable healthcare to all patients.
